I really enjoyed this week and working with everyone and I hope everyone else did. The text is brief and there are no thumbnails because I have tried to upload these pictures as soon as has been possible for people to see.
First couple of pictures taken during a walk round the property. A view across some of the arboretum and a view across the lake to the boathouse.
Did not get a "before" picture of the work site, but here is an "early during".
More work on the first couple of days - Untitled 1, Untitled 2 and Untitled 3.
A couple of times each day, we were visited by the resident geese.
4 pictures of "Bog Babes"/"Swampettes" preparing, before, during, and after.
Tuesday tea break.
Cleaning the waders by the office.
Wednesday was the day off. We went to Petworth House (no pictures) and then Oakhust cottage in Hambledon. It dates from the 16th century and preserves many features of 19th century life. It was lived in till the mid 1980s.
Pictures from the Thursday - The wetland area where we did part of the clearance and the view across the lake from the lakeside edge of the wetland area.
We loaded the trailer like this many times over with branches we had cut and several more times with logs.
The ceremonial tree planting - Alders in the wetland area.
Group photo at the end - 150dpi and 400dpi. From left to right - Nick, Linda, Annagrit, Matt, Katrina, Steve, Rob (Arborist half hidden), Clare (assistant leader), Simon (leader), Julie, Diana and Andy. Frank (Arborist) is lying on the grass at the front of the group. If I have spelt names incorrectly, let me know and I can correct this.
Linda has been kind enough to pass on scans of the pictures which she took for me to share via this website.
A nice one of some of the foliage with the colours turning.
A number of us hard at work, and hard at rest.
The inside of the boathouse by the lake.
Diana, Julie and Katrina on the lane leading to Hunter Basecamp.
The restaurant on the evening of our day off - the whole group and part of the group from another angle. In the whole group shot, down the left we have Simon, Diana, Steve, Nick, Matt and Katrina furthest away. Back up the right, Annagrit is furthest, then Clare, Julie, Linda and Andy
Clare and Katrina by the lake.
I neglected to mention before that the geese discovered on the Friday that we were a soft touch for food. They lost all inhibitions of walking into our group as we sat down to lunch and took what they could get. Here are some with Matt and the one which stole crisps out of Julie's lunchbox.
The other half of the tree planting ceremony.
On the last day, we went up a different route by the Azalea Steps rather than the right hand side of Badger's Bowl as previously. This afforded us a fantastic view of the early autumn colours.
